Thorgaard Center for Salmonid Physiology and Genomics
The Thorgaard Center for Salmonid Physiology and Genomics Research (TCSPG) is dedicated to the advancement of fundamental knowledge on the biology of salmonid fishes to improve species conservation and sustainable aquaculture in the Pacific Northwest.
Aquaculture
The Thorgaard center has a strong interest in promoting the development of salmonid aquaculture in the Pacific Northwest through our research and training of students. We provide hands on experience in fish care, system engineering, and aquaculture biotechnology.
Fisheries and Conservation
The Thorgaard center is involved in several projects to better understand the threats wild Pacific salmon face in our region. Our research and outreach aims to improve wild salmon resilience by improving our knowledge of physiological processes that are critical to their survival
Education
A major focus of the Thorgaard centers is to train the next generation of scientific leaders in the field of salmonid aquaculture and conservation. We are highly involved with graduate and undergraduate students from inside and outside WSU as well as K-12 students and community members interested in salmon biology.
